Sloppy joes

  • 330 g Extra Lean Ground Beef
  • 1/2 Onion, chopped
  • 1 Garlic Cloves, minced
  • 1/2 Green Bell Pepper, minced
  • 110 g Water
  • 55 g Ketchup
  • 1/4 t Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 T Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 t Dijon Mustard
  • 3/4 t Medium-Grain Salt
  • 1/4 t Black Peppercorn, ground
  • 1/4 t Dried Cayenne Pepper, ground
  • 110 g Water
  • For Serving
    • Hamburger Buns
    • Tater tots

Ingredients yield 3 servings.

  1. Break up beef. Add ground beef and onion to a room-temperature skillet. Cook over medium heat, thoroughly breaking up the ground beef into small pieces as it cooks.
  2. Season. Add garlic and bell pepper, and cook an additional 3 minutes. Mix in water. Add in remaining sauces and seasonings, and mix to combine.
  3. Simmer. Mix in remaining water. Bring to boil and reduce to simmer. Simmer 45 minutes, uncovered, until the water has evaporated and mixture resembles a paste.
  4. Serve in buns

Starting from a cold pan helps the ground beef to crumble into small pieces for the 'joe.

The meat should be able to stand in a heap on a spatula without falling apart.
